In Loving Memory of Aracelis (Ara) Mendez

Aracelis Mendez also known as Ara was born on March 18th, 1957 in San Francisco De Macorís, Dominican Republic. She was the youngest of 9 children in a very loving family. Her parents, Luciano Mendez and Guarina Alvarado-Mendez, instilled in her the values of kindness, perseverance, and a strong sense of faith in God. Growing up, she was known for her bright spirit and generous heart.

 

She had a passion  for creativity that was shown through her wonderful ability to cook, decorate and inspire others to seek creativity with in themselves. It was evident from a young age that she would be a creative minded person as she would play with different fabrics as a young girl and create beautiful outfits that always left her as best dressed. Her quirkiness always made everyone laugh, yet she was full of grace and elegance. Her personality brought everyone together and her gracefulness and desire to see others happy made a difference in the lives of all who knew her. She saw the good in everyone and loved abundantly. Some knew her as Ara, Tia or the cool aunt. 

Aracelis Mendez met Elias Aquino and they quickly fell in love. They married on February 28th 1987 and built a beautiful life together in the United States. They were blessed with 2 daughters Eliara Aquino and Maria Alejandra Aquino. Aracelis Mendez was a devoted mother, always putting her family's needs above her own. She was deeply involved in her children's lives, attending every event and milestone with pride and joy.

 

Her home was a place of warmth and love, where friends and family were always welcome. Aracelis Mendez had a special talent for cooking, decorating, loved fashion, and giving advice, and she often shared this with those she loved. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because she loved cooking and sharing her meals with others. Her deep faith in God and ability to make everyone feel special and cared for were some of her most cherished attributes. 

 

Aracelis Mendez had a fulfilling career in the Haverhill Public School System. She made a significant impact on her colleagues and the community. Her dedication and work ethic were unmatched, and she was respected and loved by all who worked with her including the students. 

 

In March 23, 2024 Aracelis Mendez was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Despite the challenges and hardships of her illness in such a short period of time, she faced it with incredible strength, grace, and resilience. Her positive attitude and determination were a source of inspiration to her family and friends. Even in her most difficult moments, she continued to care for others, showing remarkable courage and love.

 

Aracelis Mendez passed away on May 23, 2024 at 8:15am at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by her loving family. Her passing left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched.

 

Aracelis Mendez was a beacon of love, compassion, and strength. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on the world. She will be forever be remembered and cherished by her family, friends, and the community she served so selflessly. Her legacy of love and dedication lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
